5 out of 5 stars Works great on the body too   April 15, 2010
Anyechka (Rensselaer, NY United States)
I've been using this stuff as a moisturizer for the dry and irritated skin on my arms, neck, and back for awhile now, after Aquaphor stopped working very effectively for me, and it's been very good. Since this is marketed as a hand cream, though, and I'm using it on a surface area about a hundred times greater than the hands, I do tend to use it up quickly, and this isn't exactly the cheapest cream to keep buying every week or two! When your dry skin is related to a condition like eczema or seborrheic dermatitis and isn't just run of the mill dry winter skin, you really need a thick cream or butter like this, in lieu of a thinner lotion, even a lotion that's marketed for people with dry, itchy skin. It's also important to apply more than just a thin layer, and to reapply throughout the day. I began seeing and feeling results from this cream within a few days, although I'm still going to a very recommended dermatologist who specializes in eczema so I can find out what exactly has been causing my skin to be so angry in recent memory and so I don't have to rely so much on all of these thick creams and moisturizers throughout the day to feel relief. My parents also love L'Occitane products and were the ones who suggested that I investigate the various shea butters this fine company has to offer. Overall, this is a wonderfully thick and luxurious cream which beats a lot of the other dry skin moisturizers out there, in spite of the pretty hefty price. One shouldn't be too surprised to see higher prices for beauty products when they come from a higher-end company as opposed to the cheaper brand names that are available in any drug store!

5 out of 5 stars The best hand cream I ever used!   March 11, 2010
Lindy Lou (Midwest)
If you love fresh-smelling, non-greasy hand creams that leave your hands feeling fantastic, then you will love this hand cream! My hands feel great after I use it - nice and soft - and takes the winter chap off my hands beautifully. It's worth every penny!

5 out of 5 stars I will purchase this again!   March 10, 2010

I like this cream. It's non-greasy, fast absorbing and my hands improved after using this. The small size ($10) is a perfect tube to have in my purse at all times and it smells pleasant. I will definitely purchase this again.

3 out of 5 stars Not worth the money   February 2, 2010

Works OK but not worth money especially in winter. Sephora and other good brands are a better bargain.
Love the Lotion and Soap though.

5 out of 5 stars Worth the Price if You Can Afford It   December 9, 2009

4 out of 4 found this review helpful

I'm a caregiver, and the frequent hand washing along with alcohol-based sanitizers made my skin rough and painfully cracked, sometimes until bleeding. But this cream when applied after each washing helped make my hands soft again.

Pros of the L'Occitane cream:
1. Moisturizes super effectively.
2. Absorbs well without lots of greasiness.
3. Fragrance is pleasant and not too strong.

Cons:
1. Price.
2. Lack of UV protection.

The only other hand cream that worked about as well for me was Ahava (also very expensive).

I've also tried Neutrogena Norwegian formula, Vaseline Intensive Care, Jergens, Curel, Lubriderm, Eucerin, Aveeno and other common brands.

If you can't get the L'Occitane, then the closest inexpensive alternatives I have found so far include:
Eucerin Calming Cream, which is very rich and non-greasy (it comes fragrance free and is in a nice, large tube), and
Neutrogena Norwegian Formula, which feels a bit greasier but is available in fragrance free version, or
Norwegian Formula FAST ABSORBING Hand Cream.

Another alternative is to get some pure shea butter or Aquaphor, smooth a bit on the spots that need special treatment (especially around the nails to prevent hangnails or on cracked knuckles) and then follow up with your current favorite moisturizer.
