Product Description Aloe Vera (Aloe ferox, A. barbadensis) is referred to by many simply as the "medicine plant" because of its soothing, cooling properties. Externally, its been used throughout history to help ease the pain of sunburns, minor wounds, cuts, scrapes and rashes. Many researchers believe that aloe can enhance the bodys ability to heal by stimulating the activity of collagen and elastin two compounds responsible for healthy tissue integrity. Aloe Vera is also available as Softgels, Juice, Gel and Concentrate*

Simply quality December 2, 2008 LiteraryJade As textures go, this is pleasingly smoother than other aloe vera gels and thicker than other aloe vera juices I've tried. I've been using this product, since its on-time delivery, for liver/digestive cleansing (a tablespoon or two in 6 oz water) and skin moisturizing (with a drop or two of vitamin, essential and/or mineral oil) with great results. Stored in the fridge for lasting quality after opening, this is a great product for simple yet effective self-care.
Not really gel; actually chemically thickened juice October 31, 2008 Beth (Nebraska) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was a bit disappointed to learn that this is not truly Aloe Vera gel, as professed by the label. According to the list of ingredients on the bottle, it is Aloe juice thickened with Xanthan to produce a gel-like consistency. Apparently that does not work well, as the product is the consistency of milk. I was expecting it to be closer to the consistency of pudding. This product is great if Aloe juice is what you want, but I was under the impression that I was buying Aloe gel. Ingredients as listed on the label: Organic Aloe Vera Juice*, Xanthan (thickener), Potassium Sorbate (preservative), Ascorbic Acid (preservative), Citric Acid (preservative) *certified "organically produced" by the Texas Department of Agriculture The label also makes the following claims: "No chemicals are used while growing this Aloe Vera." (I'm amazed that it grew without any dihydrogen monoxide...) "A Minute amount of Xanthan added for Gel consistency only." 15 calories per 8 oz. serving. It does not taste nearly as bad as fresh Aloe Vera straight from the plant. It also makes a good moisturizer and hair conditioner, although it doesn't work well as a hair gel, which was the purpose for which I bought it. It also smells kind of funky (it's a different smell than fresh Aloe).
Thinner than most gels, but still amazing stuff October 19, 2008 Joan Franzino (Fairfield County, CT) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Yeah, this stuff is thinner than classic gels, but I have tried a bunch of other aloe vera gels and it's waaaaay better. In fact, it's the only one I'll buy now. Why? It doesn't have all the added chemicals, (parabens, etc.) and it's much less expensive...yet ORGANIC! I use this aloe gel everyday in my homemade facial cleansers, moisturizers, and hair. There's no way I would use other brands with that frequency...it would be cost prohibitive. Btw, I keep mine refrigerated.
Thinner than expected September 22, 2008 N. Bruce (USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
My husband was looking for aloe gel. This is organic but Now Foods' definition of gel and mine are very different! Yes, it is a little thicker than Aloe juice, but I would classify it as aloe lotion! When we have bought gel at any pharmacy it was actually thick. This is a very thin and pours rapidly from the gallon bottle. We want to know how to make it thicker. Does anyone know that other companies put in their aloe to make it a real gel? I am a believer in the power of aloe and use gels religiously for skin care, healing and moisturizing. This product is of very good quality and at the price of a gallon I am saving a lot of the money that I've spent in recent years on little bottles with one additive or another. I add what I want as I decant it into smaller pump bottles. A very good buy!
